The Everett Merchants are a summer team located in Everett, Washington. The team plays in the
Pacific International League and is one of the founding members of the league. The teams home
field is Everett Memorial Stadium (home of the world famous Merchant Burger), former home to
the professional Single A Everett Giants, and current home of the Single A Everett AquaSox.
The team is composed of current college students, graduates, and former professional players.
Many of these players have been placed in the professional draft, often more than once. The roster
is limited to 25 players by the league. Many players hold summer jobs in addition to playing ball or
continue their education with summer classes.
The team plays on average a 30 game league schedule geographically extending from Oregon in the
south to British Columbia to the north. In addition, the team plays between 10 to 20 games per
season with non league opponents and in tournaments. The regular season runs from the first of
June through the end of July.
The National Baseball Congress World Series Tournament is usually held the first two weeks of
August. The league champion is sponsored by the league to participate in the NBC World Series in
Wichita, Kansas.
In 1988, the Everett Merchants won the NBC World Series taking the title from Midlothian, Ill., 14-
11 on Troy Rusk's dramatic three-run, 12th-inning home run. Members on the 1988 Championship
team included: Harold Pyatte, Marlin Methven, Don Swayne, Pat Opel, Brett Davis, Ryan Davis,
Rick Soriano, Chirs Lobaugh, Tom Utchinkski, Matt Batt, Steve Quealey, Keith Peterson, Joey
Welch, Kevin Campbell, Mitch Tibbets, Steve Goucher, Bob Frost, Jim Parks, Dave Wong, Troy
Rusk, “O” Sobottka, Regan Bass, Scott Carpenter. Wong was named the tournament MVP.
The Merchant are led by Head Coached Harold Pyatte, who has been leading the team for more
than 30 years! In 2005, the National Baseball Congress recognized Harold for his lifelong dedication
to the team by electing him to their Hall of Fame along with Sonny Cashion, Bob Cerv and Will
Clark.
Throughout the years, seven former Everett Merchant players have made the major leagues as well
as countless number of players have been drafted.
The program relies upon local merchant and community financial support to take the field. Thus,
the Merchant name. A variety of merchants have stepped up to the plate over the years to keep the
team on the field. You will find their advertisements in the merchant program as well as this
website. Your patronage of these supporters is appreciated and don't fail to mention that you are a
Merchant fan.
While your at it, thank Harold and Sheri Pyatte because financial shortfalls often come out of their
pockets. The program focuses on development of players not only on the field but as contributing
members of the community. Stress is placed on a positive playing attitude and strong work ethic.
The philosophy of a wholesome family atmosphere is emphasized both at Everett Memorial Field
and throughout the Pacific International League. When feasible, the team participates in youth
baseball clinics and individual baseball instruction. We hope you can join us at the park and enjoy
the Everett Merchant brand of baseball.
